Oh, that's a good point re the delusional view of non-fiction; I've met people who hold just that view of non-fiction, and very irritating they are too. And you may very well be right about where 3 comes from - it's something I've run into quite a bit on lj/dw and which I've found completely puzzling, the more so in that the people saying it seemed to think it was a totally unexceptionable position requiring no explanation.
Also, someone else who reads reference works! That's my preferred flavour of non-fiction, but I haven't found it enjoys much popularity among my offline acquaintances.
